A Trimble MEP Case Study
MTech Inc, a leading Colorado mechanical contractor, faced the challenge of coordinating complex mechanical, plumbing and HVAC systems on the Trimble Westminster headquarters project while improving field productivity and eliminating install errors. Working with Trimble MEP, MTech used BIM-driven tools — including Trimble QuickPen PipeDesigner 3D, Trimble Point Creator Pro and Trimble Field Link for MEP with a robotic total station — to move from design coordination through fabrication and field layout.
Trimble MEP’s integrated solution let MTech model systems to tight tolerances, generate accurate spool sheets and BOMs, run clash detection via the Trimble Connected Community and export layout points to the field. The results: dramatic time savings and higher accuracy — a two‑person crew reduced a 500‑point layout from ~3 weeks to 3 days (plus ~4 days CAD), MTech installed 5,600 points in 24 working days (and 15,000 ft of duct strap), an apprentice reached 200 hangers/day, and nearly all fabrication came directly from the model with no as‑built changes to date.
