A Trimble MEP Case Study
EC Electric, a leading electrical contractor in the Pacific Northwest, needed fast, accurate BIM and 3D as‑builts for the Chambers Creek wastewater treatment plant under an accelerated schedule that made manual data capture costly and time‑consuming. Facing an estimated 3,000 manhours and roughly $250K for data capture, EC Electric turned to Trimble MEP for a better approach using 3D scanning and modeling.
Trimble MEP supplied the Trimble TX6 3D Laser Scanner and Trimble RealWorks office software, enabling EC Electric to scan the entire project scope in about 300 hours versus the 3,000‑hour estimate—a 90% reduction in field labor—while sending one field worker instead of four, running 60–70 scans per day, and capturing nearly 2 TB of data. The Trimble MEP solution also reduced safety risk by eliminating confined‑space data collection, sped delivery of accurate point‑clouds into Revit, and helped EC Electric come in under budget on subsequent work.
