Denver’s Innovative Asian Tropics Exhibit Begins and Ends with BIM

Hewlett-Packard faced the challenge of coordinating, fabricating and installing an extensive below‑ground life‑support plumbing and mechanical network for a large, multi‑habitat exhibit—work that required precise BIM coordination across many trades and complex site constraints. To meet that challenge they engaged Trimble MEP, leveraging Trimble’s MEP Layout Solution alongside QuickPen PipeDesigner 3D and Navisworks coordination to convert 2D contract drawings into an intelligent 3D model for design, shop fabrication and field layout.

Trimble MEP’s solution enabled 3D clash detection, shop fabrication directly from the model, and transfer of exact coordinates to GPS and total‑station survey equipment for field installation. As a result, the project achieved measurable outcomes: 100% of the life‑support pipe network installed with no below‑ground conflicts, streamlined construction sequencing, and the exhibit stayed on schedule—demonstrating the efficiency and accuracy delivered by Trimble MEP’s BIM and layout workflows.
