COSCO Fire Protection Implements Robotic Layout

COSCO Fire Protection, a West Coast fire protection contractor, faced the challenge of accurately installing complex life‑safety systems inside non‑linear, large structures on a theme‑park expansion in California. To move from coordinated 3D BIM designs to reliable field layout and replace manual tape‑measure workflows, COSCO adopted Trimble MEP solutions — notably Trimble Field Link, Trimble Field Points and a Trimble RTS773 Robotic Total Station — to enable robotic layout and one‑person operation.

Using Trimble MEP’s robotic total stations and Field Link workflow, COSCO transferred BIM layout points directly to the jobsite, staked and verified locations, and fed field feedback back into the model. The Trimble MEP solution delivered measurable results: precise placement of more than 3,700 sprinkler heads and 11 alarm systems across a 215,000‑sq‑ft attraction, accurate pendant installations 30–50 ft above the floor, and significantly improved speed and installation accuracy compared with conventional methods.
