Elkjøp, the leading Nordic electronics retailer, faced a legacy backend and rapidly growing online transactions that required a shift to microservices and scalable cloud hosting. To modernize and simplify networking for many public IPs and developer teams, Elkjøp moved to Azure Kubernetes Service and selected Traefik (from Traefik Labs) as its routing and ingress solution.

Traefik Labs’ Traefik was deployed as both an edge router and internal ingress controller for containerized .NET Core microservices on AKS, providing automated routing, Let’s Encrypt SSL and monitoring integration with Instana. The new architecture helped Elkjøp handle record 2020 holiday sales with reliable routing (Traefik now touches 10–15 microservices per transaction), moved roughly 40% of services to AKS, and delivered projected hosting cost savings up to 80%—with Traefik Labs expected to handle every sale by the end of 2021.
