Courvoisier, the cognac house, set out to shift its UK brand perception and build lasting customer loyalty at a time when many marketers were buying short-term buzz. The challenge was to engage a skeptical, mostly unfamiliar audience of UK innovators and influencers without resorting to paid advocacy, and to prove that genuine relationships could move a luxury spirit back into growth.
Their solution was The Future 500, an invite-only community and program of private and public events, collaborative content, sampling and an ambassador scheme that paid members for work (not for endorsement). Over three years the campaign generated 330M+ PR reach, sampled 30,000+ influencers, achieved 94% positive word-of-mouth and delivered sustained sales growth (about 10% year-on-year by 2011), helping revive the category and cement long-term loyalty.
