Case Study: Clemson University achieves 97% container return rates with Topanga’s ReusePass

A Topanga Case Study

Preview of the Clemson University Case Study

Clemson University and dining partner Aramark chose Topanga’s ReusePass as the replacement for their analog-token reusables program to grow return rate and eliminate obstacles to student reuse

Clemson University and its dining partner Aramark sought to improve upon their existing analog-token reusables program, which suffered from low return rates and poor student engagement. They needed a results-driven partner and a better system to meet their sustainability goals and optimize dining expenditures. They turned to vendor Topanga and its ReusePass service for a solution.

Topanga implemented its ReusePass system, which utilizes RFID technology for automated tracking and includes automated SMS reminders and marketing support to boost student engagement. The solution led to outstanding results, including a 97% average container return rate, over $413,000 saved on single-use packaging costs, and the diversion of more than 34,000 single-use containers from landfills within the first six months.
