University of Northampton - Customer Case Study

The University of Northampton, a UK higher-education institution, needed to expand its research beyond traditional focus groups to improve student satisfaction and brand perception with the goal of reaching a Top 50 ranking in IPSOS' National Student Survey by 2015. Facing intense local competition and policy-driven enrollment pressures, the university sought a way to measure satisfaction drivers, monitor sentiment in real time, and gather feedback from students, prospects and key influencers. To do this it engaged Toluna and its PanelPortal ConnectTM product to extend research into social channels.

Toluna built a branded "Connect-UN" community using PanelPortal Connect integrated into the university’s Facebook page, enabling on-site discussions, polls and surveys. On-site listening informed follow-up quantitative surveys and led to immediate, actionable changes—most notably shifting the university’s ad campaign from profiling successful alumni to highlighting future employment outcomes—while increasing participation from parents, faculty, alumni and prospective students and providing ongoing, real-time feedback for the University of Northampton.
