Loyalty & Marketing Solutions, a leading provider of loyalty and marketing solutions, direct marketing services and private‑label credit cards, needed a clearer view of the female customer’s shopping journey and what drives payment choices. To eliminate recall bias and capture in‑the‑moment behavior, they engaged Toluna and used TolunaMobile™ Diary within Toluna’s PanelPortal community research.
Toluna deployed a 21‑day mobile diary (Apple/Android) with prompts, photo uploads, UPC scanning and location‑triggered reminders to capture real‑time shopping activity from a recruited panel. Toluna’s approach showed that the same card is rarely used for everyday purchases, that the typical female shopper favors store credit cards at Amazon, grocery, mass retailers (Target, Wal‑Mart) and department stores (Macy’s, Kohl’s), surfaced new segments (“cash shopper” and “credit only customer”), and captured point‑of‑purchase signage—providing Loyalty & Marketing Solutions with actionable, measurable insights to influence payment decisions.
