A Toluna Case Study
BNY Mellon needed to understand how investors have changed their perspectives and strategies in recent economic environments. To help, Toluna (Toluna International) fielded the “Helping Meet Investor Challenges” online study, surveying 1,250 individual investors (age 21+, with at least $50,000 in investable assets) and 200 independent and institutional financial advisors to capture current perceptions and behaviors.
Toluna’s research revealed that roughly half of investors had taken no action to reevaluate their investment approach, a finding that informed BNY Mellon’s (Dreyfus) guidance strategy. Toluna’s insights prompted recommendations—such as working with professional advisors, diversifying U.S. exposure with global fixed income and equities, or considering dividend and alternative strategies—and gave BNY Mellon measurable evidence to tailor client outreach and advisory services.
