Marks and Spencer Empowers Business Analysts with Spotfire

Marks and Spencer, the international retailer, needed to give business analysts direct access to data so they could answer questions and speed decision-making without heavy IT support. The challenge was to boost organizational productivity—particularly in IT—by reducing project headcount and accelerating delivery while enabling analysts to mash up warehouse, Hadoop and spreadsheet data and handle data quality issues independently.

M&S selected TIBCO Spotfire for its ease of support, data‑visualization and mashup capabilities, plus the ability to publish automatically refreshed analyses. The rollout enabled true self-service, cut IT support effort by 5x, reduced twice-yearly inventory forecasting from 10 weeks to 2 weeks (freeing 16 weeks of FTE time), improved supplier collaboration and in‑store product availability, and sparked a broader cultural shift toward data-driven decision making.
