Henry Ford Health, a large nonprofit healthcare system, sought to embed trauma-informed practices across its entire organization to improve patient outcomes and employee working conditions in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenge was to enact this large-scale, cross-departmental change consistently across hundreds of locations and thousands of staff. They engaged The Work Department for strategic planning and facilitation services.

The Work Department facilitated a multi-disciplinary task force over two years to develop the Trauma and Resiliency-Informed Community Healthcare Organization (TRICHO) initiative. They designed working sessions to establish principles, define scope, and create a roadmap, leading to pilot projects like staff training and new workplace interventions. The solution resulted in a comprehensive framework and an internal working group for the ongoing integration of trauma and resiliency-informed care across Henry Ford Health.
