Zillow Group, a leading real estate and rental marketplace, aimed to better showcase its unique company culture and values within its job descriptions and recruiting emails. The challenge was to move away from language that unintentionally limited their applicant pool, as over half of their job posts had a masculine tone, which they believed did not align with their commitment to an inclusive workplace. To address this, they partnered with Textio and used its augmented writing platform.
Using Textio's augmented writing platform, Zillow Group infused its job posts with language patterns that reflected its core values, such as "make an impact," "collaborative," and "inclusive." This intentional language change resulted in significant measurable impacts: less than 5% of job posts had a masculine tone, the company attracted 10% more female applicants, and they saw an increase in qualified candidates while reducing their time to fill open roles. Textio’s data also showed that Zillow's distinct language helped them stand out from competitors and better communicate their culture to prospective employees.
