Expedia partnered with Textio to understand whether—and how—the words in job descriptions actually change hiring outcomes. Faced with gut-driven edits and a data-rich but noisy hiring environment, Expedia used Textio’s Data Exchange and augmented writing platform to tackle questions about gender tone, time-to-fill, applicant diversity, and other linguistic factors.
Textio applied statistical methods (including multiple regression to control confounders) across Expedia’s hiring data, surfaced company-specific high- and low-performing phrases, and embedded that guidance in its platform. The measurable impact: Textio found gender-neutral job posts filled 8 days faster than biased posts, and—when holding other factors constant—feminine-toned jobs attracted about 8% more women, giving Expedia actionable language guidance to speed hiring and improve diversity.
