University of Chicago replaces Symantec Backup Exec, avoids panic with CrashPlan

The University of Chicago needed a more reliable, user-friendly way to protect endpoint data after frequent hard drive failures, lost or stolen laptops, and large-scale migrations. Moving away from Symantec Backup Exec, the IT team sought a self-service, customer-centric model that would support mobility and reduce the “panic” when users lost data.

They deployed CrashPlan (Code42) as an on‑premises private cloud to back up and restore laptops and desktops and to support device/OS migrations. The implementation delivered more consistent, reliable endpoint backups, faster full restores (avoiding user panic), fewer IT hours spent managing backups, and improved end-user productivity.
