MIT replaces Tivoli with CrashPlan, saves $50K and supports HIPAA, FERPA requirements

Massachusetts Institute of Technology replaced its Tivoli endpoint backup with Code42 to prevent data loss from lost or stolen laptops, hard‑drive crashes and other endpoint failures. Prior to deployment, data loss incidents were a drain on IT resources; MIT ran a cloud backup pilot to gain budget and buy‑in for a new solution.

MIT deployed Code42 as a public cloud service with encryption keys held onsite in a master appliance. Since switching, MIT has saved more than $50,000 in endpoint recovery costs, reclaimed 11–25 IT hours per week, reduced costs and time spent on restores and migrations, increased end‑user productivity via self‑service restores and mobile access, and meets HIPAA and FERPA requirements.
