Mate Precision Tooling replaces Dropbox and Symantec with Code42

Mate Precision Tooling, a medium-sized industrial manufacturer, had recurring endpoint data loss from malware and ransomware, lost or stolen devices, hardware failure, insider and accidental deletions, breaches and disasters. The problem was worsened by employees storing work files in personal cloud accounts (like Dropbox), leaving IT with limited visibility or control.

To solve this, Mate replaced Dropbox and Symantec BackupExec with Code42 CrashPlan (public cloud storage with onsite-held encryption keys), selected for cost-effectiveness, fast access and to meet internal IT mandates. The deployment integrated with existing endpoint security and enabled protection during a migration/encryption project, identification of data on lost/stolen machines, secure handling of departing employees’ data, and recovery from ransomware — with users reporting CrashPlan was easy to use and supported well.
