Boston University’s College of Arts and Sciences IT needed a reliable way to protect faculty and staff data from lost or stolen laptops, hard drive failures, and during migrations while also meeting data privacy and disaster recovery requirements (including FERPA). Their previous mix of EMC Mozy, manual USB backups and Retrospect was time-consuming to manage and fragile for legal holds and e-discovery.
They implemented CrashPlan as an on‑premises private cloud, replacing prior solutions and enabling user self-restores and simpler administration. The rollout increased backup reliability and consistency, reduced backup hardware and management costs, cut IT hours and support tickets for restores, and improved compliance and legal‑hold capabilities.
