Hope College, a private liberal arts college of about 3,300 undergraduates, needed a better way to engage non-local and international prospective students who weren’t responding to traditional outreach (email, phone, direct mail) and had no way to interact with admissions on the website beyond an inquiry form. The admissions team wanted to broaden geographic reach, personalize the experience, and identify website visitors who never submitted inquiries.

Hope deployed UChat, a TargetX website chat widget, to enable real-time conversations that overcome time zone and language barriers and capture previously anonymous visitors. The chat generated 30–40% of inquiries from the target international group, revealed that 30% of chat contacts were not in the CRM, produced about one new prospect every three days, and streamlined staff workflow—helping admissions move students through the funnel more quickly.
