Wales Fire and Rescue Service - Customer Case Study

The Whole of Wales Fire & Rescue Services — a combined recruitment campaign for South, North and Mid & West Wales covering ~21,000 km² and over 3 million people — faced its first ever joint firefighter intake and expected a very high volume of applicants. They needed a cost‑effective, efficient online system to sift large numbers of candidates across all three services.

Using PSI’s SIFT™ platform candidates completed an online Job Preview and competency‑based assessments with initial HR checks for eligibility; all correspondence and reporting were automated. A three‑person team processed 6,013 applications, saving an estimated £49,000 and 203 working days, cutting the cost per application from £8.66 to £0.36, with the solution developed and supported by around 300 staff including 50 managers.
