Preview of the Large International Engineering, Maintenance, and Construction Service Provider Case Study

Reducing Safety-Related Incidents in the Workplace Using SecureFit

A large international provider of engineering, maintenance, and construction services in the oil, gas, and mining sector wanted to improve workforce quality by reducing workplace safety incidents and the significant costs they generate. The organization engaged Select International to find a legally defensible way to screen hires for safe, productive behavior as part of their existing hiring process.

Select International implemented SecureFit®, a short online pre‑hire assessment, at three North American facilities and compared assessment scores with incident records for 366 hires over three years. SecureFit classifies candidates into four fit categories; lower scores correlated with much higher incident rates (Poor Fit: 6.5% vs Good/Very Good: 0.7%), with Poor Fit candidates showing as much as nine times the incidents. By screening out Poor Fit candidates the company avoided an estimated 48 injuries and achieved potential direct cost savings of about $2.2M (OSHA estimate) — client data showed roughly $720K saved at one site.
