Preview of the U.S. Food Processing and Distributing Company Case Study

Reducing Injuries Over Time by Developing Safety Leadership Skills

A large U.S. food processing and distribution facility was facing a high rate of injuries—particularly slips, trips and falls on wet surfaces—and found that site supervisors, despite experience, lacked the leadership skills needed to drive safer behavior. The company engaged Select International to assess and develop supervisors’ safety leadership through the SafetyDNA for Leaders program.

The program combined an online SafetyDNA assessment, a safety climate survey, a one‑day workshop, one‑on‑one coaching and a yearlong L.E.A.D. sustainability phase of skills‑based modules. Over the first 12 months (three of four L.E.A.D. modules delivered), OSHA recordable and lost‑time incidents each fell about 20% and total safety incidents dropped ~17%, with site leadership reporting measurable shifts in leader behavior and safety culture.
