A Talogy Case Study
A fossil fuels energy company with 12 power-generation sites faced high injury costs and inconsistent safety performance across crews and large outage events, and wanted to know whether frontline leadership was driving those safety outcomes. The challenge was to objectively evaluate leaders’ impact on safety so the organization could target development where it would most reduce incidents.
The company had 185 foremen and general foremen complete Select International’s SafetyDNA® for Leaders assessment, which categorized leaders as High, Medium, or Low on safety leadership. Results were clear: leaders in the Low group were linked to 54% of incidents (Medium 31%, High 15%), so Low+Medium accounted for 85% of incidents. The assessment is now used in a development program of coaching and workshops to improve leader behaviors, strengthen safety culture, and reduce injuries.
