A large international automotive manufacturer engaged Select International to improve hiring for a professional role at its UK location. The company wanted to validate Select Assessment for Leaders and Professionals (SALP) and compare it to its existing assessment center process to increase the accuracy and efficiency of its selection system.
Select implemented SALP—an in-depth online assessment combining personality measures, situational judgment, applied problem solving and optional mechanical reasoning. Validation against five years of performance ratings showed SALP strongly predicted job performance (most high performers were in Bands A/B, low performers in C/D); SALP was twice as accurate as the existing system (83% of Band A were high performers vs 40% under the current method) and improved performance by 0.81 SD, an example ROI of about $16,200 per hire on a $50,000 salary (≈$1.62M for 100 hires).
