A Talogy Case Study
A large international automotive manufacturer engaged Select International to improve the quality of group leader hires at a Canadian facility. The company had used Select Assessment for Leaders and Professionals (SALP) for nine years and had assessed over 1,000 associates, then conducted a predictive validation study to evaluate SALP’s effectiveness and identify opportunities to increase selection accuracy.
SALP — an in‑depth online assessment combining personality, situational judgment, applied problem solving and optional mechanical reasoning — was significantly correlated with overall, task, contextual and global performance. Candidates who would have passed SALP scored around the 52nd percentile versus 11–27th percentiles for those who would have failed (overall performance 3.4× better), showed a 43% reduction in counterproductive work behavior, and were rated “model leaders” 75% of the time versus 43% for failures. The study estimated a 1.11 SD performance gain worth roughly $22,000 per hire annually (≈$2.2M for 100 hires), demonstrating SALP’s value in selecting effective group leaders.
