A Talogy Case Study
One of the world’s largest diversified natural resource companies — with 40,000+ employees across 100+ operations in 25 countries — needed a faster, more scalable way to assess leadership potential than time- and resource-intensive 360-degree reviews. They required a tool that validly measured the organization’s leadership competencies, worked for both individual contributors and people managers, demanded minimal administration, and complemented existing development processes.
Select International (with Russell Consulting International) developed a Leadership Self Assessment: a predictive psychological measure combining personality/belief items, situational judgment, ethical and critical-reasoning exercises, and a safety-focused component. A pilot of 90+ employees across 11 sites in 7 countries showed strong predictive validity (r = .54), top-scoring individuals averaged the 73rd percentile in job performance versus the 16th for low scorers (4.5x difference), and solid user acceptance (76% would recommend, 69% found results valuable). The company has since rolled the tool out globally, including in its Graduate Training Program, and is exploring its use in leader hiring.
