Telia, the largest telecommunications provider in the Nordics, faced the challenge of turning massive volumes of anonymized mobile-network data into timely, secure, and monetizable insights for cities, transport authorities and public-health agencies—rapidly and at scale—while supporting use cases from urban planning to pandemic response.

Their solution, Telia Crowd Insights, combines aggregated location intelligence with Tableau embedded analytics to deliver fast, visual dashboards and self-service exploration. The platform has helped cities plan events (e.g., analyzing fan flows from an Ed Sheeran concert), allowed Helsinki’s metro extension to be shown to reduce car traffic by 8% (about 13 tonnes CO2/day), supported the Swedish Public Health Authority’s COVID response, and unlocked new revenue streams and retail use cases.
