A Swiftype Case Study
Instructables, a community for sharing creative projects, was frustrated with a search experience that returned generic, title-based results and often failed on misspellings or highly specific queries. With hundreds of thousands of searches each day, the team needed a stronger search solution than their previous setup, and turned to Swiftype’s search platform.
Swiftype implemented advanced language modeling, semantic analysis, and relevance controls that improved results for misspelled, broad, and multiword queries, while also letting Instructables use rich project metadata like popularity, steps, and page views to tune rankings. The same Swiftype search engine was rolled out across web and mobile, and its analytics helped guide content strategy by revealing high-interest searches with no results, improving engagement and search quality across touchpoints.
