University Readers is a San Diego–based custom academic publisher (serving 2,000+ instructors since 1992) whose short production cycles and priority on customer satisfaction outgrew a paper-based workflow. Decentralized, photocopied forms made project and customer data hard to track and share, so the company needed a customizable, on-site CRM that could scale with its growing business.

University Readers adopted SugarCRM (starting with Community Edition, then upgrading to Sugar Professional) and built extensive customizations—including a 300‑field Products module, reporting integrations that create a mini‑intranet, a spreadsheet‑like JS data entry UI, an e‑commerce sync button, and campaign email sends. The result was a centralized repository that streamlined production, order and partner management, reduced duplicate work, improved data accuracy and reporting, and saved substantial time as the business scaled.
