How IWMF Supports Women in Journalism

The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is a nonprofit that supports women journalists worldwide through fellowships, reporting trips, grants, awards, and safety training. With a small staff of 15 and a high volume of multilingual applications and content to manage, IWMF needed a reliable system to process opportunities, evaluate programs, and publicize openings — so they adopted Submittable’s application management software.

Using Submittable, IWMF centralized fellowship and grant submissions, hiring applications, and award decisions, while handling multilingual intake and program monitoring. Through the platform IWMF managed roughly 3,000 applications and supported 93 fellowships, 55 grants, 5 awards, and 9 HEFAT trainings, delivering $3.1 million in direct support, more than $60,000 in Emergency Fund assistance, and helping grantees publish 300+ stories (2017 figures), demonstrating measurable administrative scale and program impact enabled by Submittable.
