Helping Montanans through COVID-19 with thoughtful and fast emergency grant management

The State of Montana needed to move fast in April 2020 to distribute $1.25 billion in CARES Act relief during the COVID-19 crisis. They required an easy-to-use, secure grant application system that could be stood up remotely, accommodate applicants with limited resources, and allow rapid training of hundreds of reviewers. The State of Montana selected Submittable’s grant management platform, valuing its intuitive form-building and onboarding capabilities.

Submittable helped the State of Montana launch multiple emergency programs in weeks by providing drag-and-drop form tools, mobile-friendly forms, flexible file acceptance, reviewer permissions and auto-assignment, dedicated onboarding for ~300 reviewers, and fund-tracking and reporting dashboards. The system handled spikes of demand (5,000 applications in one day, over 18,000 total), enabled over $1 billion of $1.25 billion to be committed (with $329 million awarded to nearly 12,000 businesses and organizations), and continues to support 18 emergency grant programs.
