Ditching Paper Applications and Moving to a New Era of Publishing

Tin House, a literary trifecta of magazine, book publisher, and summer workshop, needed a reliable way to manage online submissions, book manuscripts, and scholarship applications for its week-long workshop at Reed College. To ditch paper applications and reduce administrative burden, Tin House adopted Submittable as an industry-standard submission platform across its magazine, book, and workshop programs.

Submittable provided a shared, flexible platform with features like archiving and multiple application categories that Tin House uses across departments. The switch to Submittable saved about 10 hours per week, supported roughly 1,100 submissions in 2017 with about a 21% acceptance rate, allowed the team to expand to four readers (and 12 happy judges), and made year-to-year applicant management much easier.
