Breaking down barriers to award scholarships to women who need and deserve higher education

The Jeannette Rankin Women’s Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit that awards scholarships to nontraditional women returning to higher education, struggled with clunky online systems that created steep learning curves for applicants and reviewers and kept many eligible women from finishing applications. To lower these barriers, JRF adopted Submittable’s scholarship management platform and onboarding services to create a simpler, more accessible application experience.

Using Submittable, JRF rebuilt concise application forms, sent bulk reminders to starters, and implemented a three-tiered, scoring-based review process that made training and monitoring roughly 250 reviewers straightforward while improving fairness and diversity checks. The result was faster, more complete submissions (including several on day one), a 55% increase in total submissions, and easier collection of multimedia testimonials for marketing — all enabled by Submittable.
