Association of Writers & Writing Programs - Customer Case Study

The Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) is a nonprofit serving writers, academic creative writing programs, and literary organizations, best known for its annual conference of over 12,000 participants. Faced with the need to collect, review, and manage a high volume and wide variety of literary submissions across prizes, publications, and professional programs, AWP adopted Submittable in 2012 to centralize and streamline its intake and review processes.

Using Submittable’s submission and review platform, AWP processed more than 15,750 submissions from over 9,500 individuals across 22 categories, and in 2018 ran 18 distinct forms for awards, magazine content, the Intro Journals Project, and two professional-development programs (Writer to Agent and Writer to Writer). Submittable enabled AWP to handle diverse application types at scale, simplifying administration and improving the organization’s ability to manage and honor literary excellence.
