A SS&C Technologies Case Study
Johns Hopkins Medicine faced major care disruptions during the COVID‑19 pandemic—sharp drops in ED visits and outpatient care, postponed elective surgeries, and a 50% decrease in Hemoglobin A1c testing—creating backlogs and unseen clinical risk across its population. To monitor these utilization shifts and respond proactively, Johns Hopkins used the Johns Hopkins ACG® System (distributed by SS&C Technologies) to gain population‑level and patient‑level visibility into preventive care, ED use, hospitalizations and chronic‑disease monitoring.
Using the ACG System through SS&C Technologies, Johns Hopkins tracked ED and inpatient trends, identified patients who used the ED for non‑urgent needs, prioritized high‑risk patients for in‑person or telehealth visits, monitored lab markers and medication gaps, and supported case‑mix adjustments for value‑based arrangements. The analytics produced measurable insights—ED volume rebounded to roughly 75% of pre‑pandemic levels by October, hospitalizations climbed to about 90–95% by late summer/fall, and telemedicine visits for a Johns Hopkins Medicare Advantage cohort rose from under 10 to over 3,000/month in April–May—enabling targeted outreach and more proactive population health management.
