Health Care System Provider, a non-profit integrated health care system operating 51 hospitals and 800+ non-acute facilities across seven states, faced a lack of patient-specific drug cost visibility and limited access to therapeutic alternatives at the point of prescribing. To give providers and members timely out-of-pocket cost information and channel options (mail order, specialty pharmacy), the organization worked with SS&C Technologies to implement a Real-time Benefit solution integrated into the EMR prescribing workflow.

SS&C Technologies’ Real-time Benefit provided clinicians with clinically valid therapeutic alternatives, pricing, and delivery options at the point of prescribing, enabling cost-aware treatment decisions and fewer prior authorizations. The solution was used by close to 10,000 prescribers per month, yielded 20% provider adoption of real-time benefit, a 60% therapeutic alternative response rate, 80–85% e-prescribing use, and produced $260K–$310K in quarterly savings (10–12% of potential savings) since 2019, while improving adherence and reducing primary non-adherence.
