Westminster Abbey, one of the UK's most visited historic sites, needed a modern, mobile-friendly website and much better search to make its large volume of content discoverable for an international audience. After a prior Squiz overhaul that boosted traffic, the Abbey engaged Squiz again to deliver a responsive redesign and improved content discovery—working within a tightly restricted budget and leveraging Squiz platforms such as Matrix and Funnelback Search.
Squiz partnered closely with Westminster Abbey in an unusual split‑work approach (the Abbey produced HTML while Squiz implemented functionality in Matrix) and deployed Funnelback Search for faceted and site search plus a responsive redesign and language‑based homepage content. The result is a faster, device‑appropriate site that surfaces timely content and supports roughly 14 language variants, improves content findability, and delivered cost savings by sharing development work—helping Westminster Abbey better serve over one million annual visitors.
