A Squiz Case Study
London South Bank University (LSBU), a London university of more than 18,000 students and 1,700 staff, was held back by a fragmented, hard-to-manage web presence (286,000 distinct URLs across 130 domains) and sat 179th in Sitemorse’s higher education ranking. A small web team of four set clear targets — +40,000 site visits per month and an 8% rise in applications — and engaged Squiz in 2013 to redevelop the site and lift the brand.
Squiz implemented a full redesign and governance overhaul using Squiz Matrix CMS, Funnelback Search and metadata-driven content workflows: a simplified, segmentable homepage, distributed content ownership with automated approvals, dynamic aggregation and faceted, auto-suggest search. The impact was measurable — LSBU rose to 60th after launch, moved into the top 20 in 2015 and reached #1 on Sitemorse on 16 May 2016; the university surpassed the 40,000/month visits target and achieved a 13% increase in conversions (vs. an 8% goal).
