Creative Scotland - Customer Case Study

Creative Scotland, the public body that supports the arts, screen and creative industries across Scotland, engaged Squiz to rethink and replace a website that nearly 50% of users found lacklustre and difficult to navigate. The brief was to create a simple but sophisticated, visually rich platform that serves diverse user needs—from artists seeking information to international audiences discovering Scottish work—while improving accessibility and mobile responsiveness.

Squiz led extensive stakeholder engagement and user‑journey prototyping, then delivered a redesigned site using Squiz design and technology (including Funnelback search) that surfaces more content and media. Key changes—such as a three‑tabbed homepage carousel that displays eight stories above the fold, metadata tagging, an "Explore" collage of galleries and playlists, and smart search tools—made content easier to find and let the small in‑house team make fast updates. The result is a more attractive, functional site that better showcases Creative Scotland’s work and includes tangible improvements (homepage story capacity, focused search results, funding FAQs and resource databases) endorsed by the organisation.
