A Squiz Case Study
Auckland University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand’s newest university with nearly 24,000 students, needed a modern, flexible CMS and intranet to reflect its technology leadership and support growing online services. Frustrated by the limitations of their legacy system and requiring features like LDAP authentication, granular privileges, WYSIWYG editing, audit trails and no per‑user license costs, AUT selected Squiz and its Matrix CMS to provide a commercially supported, open and future‑proof platform while enabling the university to be largely self‑sufficient.
Squiz implemented Matrix for AUT’s public website and intranet, integrating designs, migrating content, creating a Simple Edit Interface, connecting LDAP authentication and providing system management training. As a result, AUT saw improved performance and content discoverability via Matrix search, non‑technical content authors can update pages easily, the university built three additional sites in‑house (including the AUT library), and achieved measurable time, cost and efficiency savings—with Squiz’s Matrix delivering a commercially supported, future‑proof solution and improved reliability through a replicated environment.
