A New Technology Platform Provider to Power More Than 130 Websites Across the Two States

British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), a leading Canadian applied-education institution, needed a better site search after support ended for the Google Search Appliance and their replacement produced unsatisfactory, frustrating results. To improve findability and reduce search time across more than 130 websites, BCIT evaluated 30 solutions and selected Squiz’s Funnelback search product to deliver faster, more relevant results.

Squiz implemented Funnelback with custom refinements and promoted results for high-value queries so BCIT could tune search behaviour without changing site design; about 50 top queries were promoted and refinements for many terms dropped by up to 60%. After rolling out Squiz’s solution sitewide, BCIT saw conversions increase 13.9%, sessions with search rise 10.6%, and goal value grow by USD $5,009,000, along with fewer search complaints and improved user satisfaction.
