Shake Shack - Customer Case Study

Shake Shack, the modern “roadside” burger stand, wanted to take the next step toward its “Shack of the Future” by extending the success of its mobile app into the in‑store experience. Working with Brooklyn design and development agency Fuzz, the goal was to build a self‑service kiosk that introduced digital ordering, streamlined queues, and let employees focus on higher‑value guest interactions.

Fuzz used the Square Reader SDK to prototype hardware and payments within 24 hours and deliver a PCI‑ and EMV‑compliant integration that accepts cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay while passing transactions into Shake Shack’s accounting system (including special transaction types). The kiosk is live in New York, early results show a frictionless customer experience, and Shake Shack is considering expanding the test to more locations.
