Sun of the Desert, a general store in Twentynine Palms, California, needed a way to bridge its pop-up roots with a growing brick-and-mortar operation. As the business expanded, co-owners Damien Merino and Jimmy Brower wanted tools that could support in-store and online sales, simplify new-location planning, and help staff operate more independently. They turned to Square, using Square Reader, Square for Retail, Square Online, and Square Dashboard.
Square implemented a streamlined retail system that supported payments, online selling, sales insights, loyalty, and mobile checkout. The results included minimal training time for new staff, a more intuitive workflow, and the confidence to open a second location in 2024. During California wildfire-related outages, Sun of the Desert was still able to keep selling using Square’s Tap to Pay on phone, maintaining uninterrupted checkout and customer service.
