A Sprout Social Case Study
The City of Las Vegas set out to rebuild trust and boost two-way communication with its more than 600,000 residents by investing in a dedicated social media program. Starting as a one-person effort that grew into a five-member team, the city faced the challenge of making government feel accessible and responsive in an era of declining public trust.
Las Vegas focused on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to humanize government (using GIFs, emojis and live “Daily Dose” segments), provide timely, transparent updates, and mobilize employee advocates to amplify messages. Using a social management tool to streamline responses and live council coverage, the city drove more than 380,000 unique interactions on Facebook and Twitter and achieved major engagement gains — including a 59% year‑over‑year increase on Instagram, a 23% increase on Twitter, and a notable rise in organic impressions.
