How the Urban Institute Boosts Messaging Reach Through Sprout Social and Bambu

The Urban Institute is a Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit that produces nonpartisan research to inform policymakers, media and the public. Because it shares evidence rather than taking advocacy stances, driving engagement on social channels was a challenge—especially with an unsatisfying legacy social tool and the need to reach influencers and decision-makers rather than a broad activist audience.

By adopting Sprout Social for publishing and monitoring and Bambu for employee advocacy, the team automated posting, identified influencers and made it easy for staff to share curated content. Results include a 12% lift in total social followers, more than 13 million impressions, 160,000 engagements and 62,000 link clicks year-over-year, Twitter gains (6.8% more organic impressions, 10.3% more followers, 15.1% more messages received) and a potential employee-driven reach of over 1,034,903 with a 200% month-over-month increase in employee story shares.
