Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, newly restructured with a mission to grow enrollment, engage alumni and amplify research, faced a complex social media landscape: seven channels in English and French, many programs and internal stakeholders, and no sustainable way to surface community data or report performance. The marketing team needed tools to turn posts and conversations into actionable insights and to manage volume and collaboration across the faculty.
Telfer adopted Sprout Social, building a detailed tagging tree and using Tag Reports, the Smart Inbox, and publishing/workflow tools to centralize engagement, automate reporting and coordinate contributors. The results: campaign-level insights showed a 1.29% engagement rate for an Elevator Pitch campaign (357% above the higher-ed average), 78% of audience messages responded to within 24 hours in Q3 FY19, and clearer, stakeholder-tailored reporting—and other university units have begun to follow their lead.
