How Purdue University increased their social media engagement by 24%

Purdue University’s Digital Engagement team, led by Assistant Director Abby Eddy, set out to broaden the university’s social reach and build a unified, engagement-driven program from the ground up. Tasked with managing non-athletic channels across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, TikTok and more for a combined audience of over 900,000 followers, the team needed to scale content, maintain a single brand voice across students and staff, and improve responsiveness to campus conversations and crises.

Purdue adopted Sprout Social as a cross-departmental hub—using Profile and Post Performance Reports, Smart Inbox, Tags, Listening Topics, the Word Cloud and an Asset Library—to train ambassadors and interns, streamline reporting and speed crisis response. The results: a 24% lift in social engagement, 4.5 million total engagements and reaching 151% of their 2021–2022 engagement goal, plus clearer data-driven reporting and a more consistent brand presence.
