A Spok Case Study
The Western Cape Department of Health in South Africa—responsible for more than 400 primary-care facilities and Emergency Medical Services across six call centers—faced unreliable paging for 4,500 contacts: overlapping transmitters produced multiple or corrupted messages and there was no backup when the system failed. The department needed a modern, reliable messaging platform that could reach staff on pagers, phones and smartphones and support future integrations with building and security systems.
They implemented Spok Messenger and Spok Fusion, managed by Messaging Systems, to centralize alerts and enable web-based and telephone-initiated paging from each site. The solution delivers messages to multiple device types, provides redundancy and permanent logs, and lets clinicians send pages themselves; the department now sends about 5,500 messages per month with improved delivery accuracy, faster response times, greater traceability, and higher staff satisfaction and patient safety.
