A Spok Case Study
The Yachts of Seabourn is a luxury cruise line operating intimate, yacht-like ships that expanded its fleet to larger vessels to meet rising demand and now carries up to 450 guests with crews of about 330 divided into Engine, Deck, and Hotel departments. Management needed a standardized, easy-to-use messaging system that would support guest services, streamline department workflows, integrate with existing ship systems, and provide reliable emergency notifications without disturbing passengers.
Seabourn implemented Spok’s mobile event notification and IP-based paging solution—critical alerting middleware that sends messages via a web interface or email to crew mobile devices and integrates with the helm console to trigger emergency (bravo) alerts. The system went live with minimal start-up cost, crew members adapted quickly, and communications became fully reliable, enabling smoother logistics, discreet emergency response, and a consistently high level of guest service.
