A Spok Case Study
St. Vincent’s Hospital, a public healthcare system in Melbourne with more than 5,000 staff and 880 beds, faced problems with an outdated paging system that produced excessive, non‑specific alerts. The noise and volume of messages risked alarm fatigue and threatened timely delivery of critical communications, so the hospital needed a more reliable way to route relevant information to the right people.
St. Vincent’s deployed Spok Messenger, integrated with its Rauland‑Borg nurse call and fire panel systems, to send targeted alerts (including location and alert type) to pagers, mobile phones and DECT devices and to allow manual web-based paging. The change produced reliable message delivery, faster nurse‑call and fire‑alarm responses, reduced unnecessary interruptions and alarm fatigue, improved staff self‑sufficiency, and quicker mobilization of code teams.
